Former World Champion
Lauren Parsons and her
Daystate Red Wolf.
Invented in the 1990s by airgun maestro Steve Harper, Daystate adopted the electronic firing system back
in 2003 when it launched the revolutionary Daystate MK3 Pre-Charged ri e. Since that date the company
has become synonymous with electronic airguns. It has, however, taken the launch of a full-length ri e
version, the Red Wolf, to really shine…
What started o
28
as a completely
revolutionary
idea has, in the
subsequent years, been
gradually developed
through a number of key
developmental stages
with the very latest GCU
system being introduced
in the company’s “bullpupped”
Pulsar ri e back
in 2015.
Although the very
rst prototype ri es of
the Red Wolf made it
to the Extreme Bench
Rest event in Arizona
in October 2017, it was
at the 2018 event where
it started to dominate
proceedings with the
latest ri e taking a high
proportion of the top
honours in virtually every
category; from the 50
Yards Bench Rest to the
Field Target shoot, which
was won with a Red Wolf
in .22 by Michael Wendt.
What’s more
remarkable in the Red
Wolf story is that this
is not a target ri e but a
hunting onee.
e Red Wolf comes
as standard with a 10-
shot magazine and three
power settings, to allow
adjustment for various
hunting scenarios. In the
case of the USA-supplied
ri es this would have
been 30, 40 and 50 ft/
lb at its highest setting.
is produces muzzle
velocities up to a healthy
880 feet per second using
a whopping 34 grain
airgun pellet – not the
sort of energy available
to your usual converted
target ri e, which is why
the Red Wolf is almost in
a category of its own.
To combine this sort of
power with a fast ring
magazine system is one
thing; but the electronic
system adds e ortless
cocking (no hammer
spring to work against),
electronic trigger and
a super-fast lock time,
which makes this airgun
very forgiving to shoot.
Of course, Daystate
is famously a UK-based
company, and for its
home market the ri e is
mainly sold with 12ft/
lb energy. In the UK
con guration you may
get less power, but by
way of a payback you
get hundreds of shots
between lls – around
500 of them. A tin of
pellets between lls? Not
bad!
You can expect to hear
more of the Daystate Red
Wolf over the coming
months as the company
begins to celebrate its
40th birthday, kicking o
with an exclusive party
at the Royal Armouries,
Leeds, UK in December.
Gun Trade World will
be on hand to report on
the event and to hear the
‘special announcement’
that the company
promises to reveal on the
day...
