Norwegian aqua feed
products manufacturer and
distributor, Skretting, is
to pull its manufacturing
operation out of the UK
from as soon as April next
year.
Renowned for producing
pellets in various guises for
both commercial fi sh rearing
and recreational angling
purposes, the company is
currently in the process of
discussing its plans to close,
with its employees.
More than 50 jobs will
be lost at its Invergordon
plant in Scotland that
manufactures fi sh feed
for the Scottish salmon
industry while another 50
plus jobs will go at its head
offi ce in Norwich, a storage
warehouse in Shetland and
its other manufacturing
plant near Preston in
Lancashire.
In a statement, Skretting
said that the closures
were due to British market
conditions, resulting from
over-capacity and low prices
and confi rmed that Britain’s
ongoing Brexit saga was not
a contributing factor in its
decision.
Skrettings’ chief executive
offi cer, Therese Log Bergjord,
said: “Unfortunately, we are
experiencing unsustainable
market conditions in the
UK. With a
new large
feed plant
becoming
operational
in Scotland
early
2019, the
total feed
capacity
in the region is expected
to exceed the total market
by more than 50 per cent.
This is driving down prices,
leading to an unsustainable
commercial environment.”
