When it comes to clothing of a MIL/LE operator or a hunter, the focus is usually on
the camou age pa ern or material used in the uniform or jackets and trousers.
This is only natural because those are the parts of clothing one can see, but Finnish
company Svala has been concentrating on the unseen, as Gun Trade World finds out.
 Finnish company
 56
 Finnsvala oy has
 learned that the
 unseen is just as important
as what can be seen from
the outside. Svala has a long
 history in manufacturing
 underwear – the company
 was founded in 1955, but
 during the 1990s it truly
 started focusing on product
 development and technical
 underwear. Every product
 is still handmade in Finland
 to guarantee the highest
 possible quality and this
 has allowed the company
 to gain a legendary
 reputation among hunters
 and outdoor enthusiasts in
Finland, while it also has a
 long history of supplying
 the Finnish defense Forces
 and Law Enforcement
 agencies.
   e company can also
 easily o er tailor made
 solutions with unique
 design, having both
 production and product
 development under the
 same roof, allowing for
 fast turn arounds and high
 customer value.
 With new owners,
 Onerva and Kimmo
 Aakko, the company is
 looking to expand to
 international markets. Even
 more resources are put
 to product development
 and the brand-new
 factory provides excellent
 facilities for growth. Svala
 provides standard merino
 underlayers, reproof
 underwear and hoods
 and the Power Stretch
 Pro series is designed for
 extremely cold weather,
 which the Finns know a
 thing or two about.
   e most popular
 product among hunters is
 without a question Svala’s
100 per cent dry mesh. We
 all know hunting can take
 place in various terrains
 and weather conditions.
 A chilly morning can turn
 to scorching sunshine
in a matter of hours and
 you might have to walk
 several kilometres to reach
 your destination and stay
 completely still while
 waiting for the right game
 animal to show up. e
100 per cent dry mesh is
 an excellent choice in all
 these conditions as it wicks
 moisture extremely well
 and thanks to the silver
 ionization, keeps the fabric
 odourless.
   e spearpoint of its
 tactical gear combines
 Svala’s 100 per cent dry
 mesh shirt with new
 Cutlon fabric. Protective
 gear isn’t usually known for
 making the user feel more
 comfortable but Svala’s
 cut protected mesh shirt
 makes the di erence in
 terms of comfortant and
 performance. e moisture
 wicking qualities of the
 mesh fabric keeps the skin
 cooler under a ballistic
vest and at the same time
 the breathable and exible
 Cutlon fabric sleeves and
 collar provide protection
 against knife attacks and
 cuts from other sharp
 objects. e shirt can be
 combined with a Cutlon
 reinforced hood and
 Cutlon fabric passes the
 regular tests for the EN388
 standard which measures
 resistances for blade cuts,
 tear and abrasion.
 Svala is currently looking
 for new international
 distributors and you
 can meet them at both
 Enforcetac and IWA in
 Hall 4, Stand 442.
